About me

KayRansomPhotography6283.jpg

I started out in theatre when I was 16, getting a job as a casual techie, working on a number of different size shows. I have been a flyman, lighting desk op/programmer and stage hand before I started work as an junior accountant with a firm in Hertfordshire.

I also did a small spell in the TA, where I was mobilised to spend 6 months in Helmand Province, Afghanistan on Operation Herrick. While it was an unforgettable experience it taught me the value of communication, being clear and concise, an ethos I bring into my work.

Since then I moved to the west country with my wife and children to start my own practice.

Now the practice has been established and we have a diverse range of clients, including sole traders such as authors, actors, musicians and photographers as well as companies including production companies and publishing firms.

Last year I went back to being a student again, and embarked on a law degree before I aim for my ultimate goal of completing a Doctorate.

About the firm

I started this practice to enable creative people to have access to good quality tax and accounting advice from someone who hasn't always just been staring a spreadsheet their whole life.

I know that dealing with HMRC can be difficult at best and hopeless at its worst. I aim to take that problem away from you. With me you will get start to finish support and contact, that is both friendly and professional, with a bit of fun thrown in.

When you join us you will get a quick start guide for either sole traders or company directors giving you a basic overview of the things you'll need to know, from What taxes to pay to what kind of expenses you can claim.

I'm also a big fan of getting technology to do the heavy lifting so I can get on with your accounts faster and with greater precision. I have partnered with Xero offering a cloud bookkeeping software package that connects to your online banking pulling through the transactions and making your bookkeeping a doddle.

Your accounts and tax returns are also sent electronically for you to review and sign them wherever you are. Again speeding up the whole process so you can get on with running your business.
